Kennel Cough?
I have 3 Chocolate Labs. The adult male is nine, the adult female is 3 and the male pup is 4 months. They were all around another pup that had been around a dog that had been in a Kennel for a day or two. None of the dogs showed signs of Kennel cough at that time. But the dog that went to the Kennel developed a cough and the other dogs at that home did too. About t weeks later my older male developed a cough and two weeks after that my male pup has started coughing. The dogs are not around any other dogs and are outside dogs. What can be done for the coughing. From what I understand it is an air borne disease from a virus. The vet said they could prescribe anitbiotics, but everyone I've talked to says that the dogs get well in about the same amount of time and it doesn't matter if you give them medicine or not. Any ideas you know of that work. Can my female be prevented from getting it after already being around the other dogs. All of my dogs have been vaccinated and see the vet regularly. Several of you are recommending to get vaccinated. Is there a some other vaccination that can be given in addition to the regular ones my dogs have always gotter. If so, I will be asking my Vet why he didn't advise me of this when Kennel Cough was obviously in his Kennel. (That is where my friend's dog stayed when she got the Kennel Cough)

Is my dog's kennel cough terminal?
I just adopted a dog two weeks ago, he showed signs of kennel cough, I noticed at first mucos from his nose, which could have been from the bordetella treatment given. He coughs with uper respiratory breathing affected aswell. But he remains active, eats well... He's up , he sleeps , he's up he sleeps... I'm not certain what is normal breathing for the dog, being that I've never owned a dog... I took him to the vet the first week, vet couldn't give me an answer, said it could be pnemonia or a fatal virus of some sort.. He was given clavamox and vitamins.. He also has worms that they gave him shot for and had previously been treated for, during the first week, he did show some temperature that I thought normal for a dog, but as I have read up is not, since given his treatment a week later his cough has gotten a bit better but is still there and his breathing at times is fine and at times not. I'm not so worried about the worms as I am over this cough that might take him to the grave.

Is it safe to give your dog over the counter medicines, like Robitussin?
I have a 11 month old Chow Chow, she doesn't want to eat, always running fever. She acts like she has to cough, and sometimes she does, it's like a gag, as if she is trying to cough something up, but nothing comes up. I also noticed, when she sleeps, you can hear her breathing, sounds like she is congested. She has been to the vet many times, and the problem seems to come and go. My problem is, I live in Spain temporarily, but do not speak Spanish. She has been like this since Sept '06 and during that time, I had to board her for a wkend. Well after about a month, she started showing signs of coughing, gagging and no appetite, that is when we were told she had Bronchitis, which is a sign of Kennel Cough. But w/ antibiotics she seems to get better and then w/o the med, she goes back to being sick. The vet has taken blood test and sd she has no infection, so he will not give her anymore meds, but I am thinking there is more to it, b/c it keeps coming back. Any suggestions?

What Can I Do Until I Get To His Appointment With The Vet?
I have a six month old pitbull labrador mix puppy. Up until yesterday, he was acting fine. All of a sudden, he started getting signs of kennel cough. Is this normal? He hasn't been around too many dogs since I brought him home from the shelter about a week and a half ago. Today, I woke up to give him a walk and feed him, but he wouldn't touch his food or water, it was too cold outside, and he wouldn't do his duties. That's when he started trembling. All he's been doing for the last two days is sit on the couch and rest. He is doing that as I am writing this. I have even tried giving him his favorite treats but to no avail. Please, if anybody has any good ideas, they would be greatly appreciated.
