Puppy Not Eating
How to Get My Dog to Eat
So you're dog isn't eating or eats selectively? I bet that's why you're reading this. Getting a dog to eat can be difficult at times but with the proper training and tools, they will be on their way to good health.
First off, the reasons why a dog won't eat are important to understand before trying to get them to eat again. As a puppy, they are usually put on one of a kind food and stay on it until transferred to a new owner. If you tried switching foods when you purchased or adopted the puppy or dog, they might not like the feeling it gives them to eat the new food. You should stay on the food that the puppy was fed in the beginning for at least a year. By switching foods, you are changing the nutrients the puppy is used to receiving which gives them horrible stomach aches and diarrhea. Another thing is that when puppies are eating, they are usually really nervous and don't like to eat when they feel endangered. If you just brought the puppy into a new home then it might be stressed out about the move and be scared to eat.
So let's try and get your puppy or dog to eat. These steps are for you to try either separately or in conjunction with each other. Do one at a time though!
1. I have answered the question as to why a dog won't eat, but I am now going to answer how to get a dog to eat. Move the bowl into a more secluded area and purchase a gate to lock the dog into the eating are. Do this every single time you feed the puppy, making the area a bit bigger than the day before until you have the whole house opened up during feeding time.
2. Never feed table scraps to the dog. Feeding table scraps with tons of flavor can cause a dog to not want his or her bland dog food any more. This can really affect me telling you how to get a dog to eat because if you already do this, it may take a while to break the dogs habit. Something you can do is feed the dog their food during your dinner time. This also requires you to eat on a schedule because dogs enjoy doing all their daily tasks on a schedule.
3. Mix water in the food. This is a definite long shot but dog foods, when mixed with water, tend to create a gravy like topping for the food and this sometimes tricks the dog into thinking it is human food. The negative side of this is that a dog could get addicted.
Now that I have told you how to get a dog to eat, you should start implementing these steps immediately. Check out the resource box below for more information on how to get your dog to eat.

New puppy not eating?
We got a puppy yesterday and by the time we got home, it was about 1:30pm. She didn't eat anything for the rest of the day, but had plenty to drink (and her food bowl is next to her water, which she sometimes sniffs at). This morning, she still hasn't eaten. Is this normal? What should be done?
We use the exact same dry and wet food as the breeder, so the food isn't new to her

Please help, six month old puppy not eating, seems depressed?
Ok we have had this puppy since she turned 8 weeks old and she has been seen by the vet, received her shots, all the essentials and is a really healthy girl. But two days ago she suddenly stopped eating, although she still drinks her water. She seems, for lack of better word, to be depressed. She's not vomiting, having runny stools, or anything else that would make this alarming. She's just not eating, acts depressed, although she gets really happy and excited when we call her to us or talk to her. I am thinking maybe we have neglected to pay enough attention to her over the last few days because of the holiday preparations, but I have never seen a dog do this before. Any help on this would be really appreciated, I will take her to the vet if she gets worse but would like to avoid this if possible as the holidays have left us a little low on money and the testing a vet is going to want to perform can be costly.
Thanks everyone, I have been considering trying the meat, veggie, and rice route the only thing that has stopped me is that the one time I gave her some leftover stew she scarfed it down without chewing it and ended up throwing it up all over my carpets. I think I will give it a shot anyway and maybe by limiting how much I give at once, that might help.

Pitweiler puppy not eating.?
I have a 5 month pitbull rottweiler puppy that is not eating much. He is 40 pounds and hasn't gained any weight in 2 weeks. He is up to date on shots heartworm flea and tick. He has been to the vet and he is in perfect health. I feed him blue buffalo large breed puppy food. Any ideas on what's going on? Is it just a phase? Please help out with any advice. I don't want to do treats or any wet food because I did that before and he stopped eating his dry food.
To the person who said feed and he will get hungry I think its obvious its notg working coz I'm asking for help...if your answers are stupid and useless don't post. I got him at 10 weeks and he has always done well until recent and I took him to the vet 2 times and both times they said nothing is wrong medically.

6mo old puppy not eating dry food/not chewing?
I have a 6 mo old dachsund mix. She
is fed absolutely no human food. Since we have had her we've tried several different dry foods to see what she prefers. At first it was fine, she ate everything (more like vacuumed it - she refuses to chew) The last brand she ate normally was Kibbles N Bits but I don't feel comortable going back to that. We bought Purina puppy chow after that and she wouldn't eat. I mixed dinner with wet dog food and she ate. I switched products again to iams. She still refuses it unless she has no other choice (dinner mixed with wet). Now today she has thrown up several times and you can clearly see the dry food. Could there be a serious problem? Or is she just being picky?
