The white part of my dogs eyes seam to be pink what could this be? Can dogs get pink eye? If so what do i do?

Whats wrong with my dogs eye?
The skin around it that is usually black has turned pink/white and its so swollen that i can't see any of the white of his eye. he keeps it closed when i try to get a closer look. its not leaking that i know of but he does rub at it a lot. At first i thought he must have just poked it badly but its been like this for three days and hasn't gotten any better.
I just want to know is this just like pink eye for dogs or can it possibly be something more serious i plan on taking him to the vet either way but it would be nice to know now. If you have any ideas or suggestions of what i can do for the time being to help with his eye until his appointment i'd appreciate them.

Because I think my dog has it if this is true. So my dogs right eye is very red, was swollen, and has this green puss looking stuff next to her eye and she trys to scratch at her eye all the time Her behavior seems the same though
