Pets Health Questions
Where You Can Go For Answers to Your Pet Health Questions
As a pet owner, you are no doubt concerned with the health and well being of your pet. Sometimes our pets have health issues that we do not have the answers for, and do not always know where to turn to find advice and answers on these pet health questions.
If you are concerned about your pet's health and are not sure if it is something that should require a trip to the vet or medical attention, you are not alone. Many pet owners have questions on the health of their pets and it is hard to tell when your pet really does need medical attention. Pets have a way of hiding their symptoms and illnesses from us because they do not want to seem weak or hurt. Because of this, we as pet owners need to be responsible for getting them the care that they need when they need it.
Although you may not always be able to tell when your pet is hurting or not feeling well, there are some indicators that he or she may be sick. If your pet is exhibiting changes in the way they act and the amount of attention that they want from you, it could indicate there is trouble. Pets who are normally very affectionate and suddenly seem to be shying away from you, could be hiding the fact that they do not feel good. Pets who are normally very independent and who suddenly want to be around you more and need more attention could also be showing signs that something may not be right.
Other pet health questions owners typically have are in the eating habits of their pets. While it is common from time to time for pets to have different eating habits and some changes are normal, if your pet is showing extreme changes such as not eating hardly at all, or eating all of the time, this could be cause for alarm. If your pet is eating a lot more than normal but not gaining any weight, it could be a sign of worms or other digestive issue that they are experiencing.
Changes in the elimination habits of your pets can also be indicators that a sickness or problem is present. It is important to always keep an eye on the elimination habits of your pet so that you will be able to tell the difference between normal and when something may be wrong.
Changes in the appearance of your pet such as changes in the luster of the fur, texture of the fur and sudden bald spots could indicate ticks, rashes or other skin lesions that may not be visible to the naked eye. Cats who overly groom a particular area and create a bald spot could be exhibiting signs of sickness or even stress. If you notice any behaviors like that in your pet, you should talk to a vet to find out what could be causing it.
Pet health questions can be confusing, and you may not always know where to turn for accurate and helpful answers. There are many pet sources on the Internet that offer advice and information on anything from pet health to pet behavior. There are also sites that offer answers to any questions that you may have that you can ask a professional vet for a small fee and also catalogue previous questions and answers from pet owners that are relevant to your concerns for your pet. You can also check with your local vet to help answer any questions as well.

Does anyone else absolutly love this website for pet health questions?
I came across this site a while ago and really it has proved to be the greatest resource on pet health information I have been able to find online. I use it all the time to help friends and family and myself answer questions about pet problems that our vets have no answered adequately, or just to get a second opinion on treatments or symptoms etc. Its called Marvista Vet Pet Web Library.. http://www.marvistavet.com/html/the_pet_web_library.html
If you havent checked it out before I suggest you do it is very helpful and informative resource for pet owners. Thanks to this site I have been able to find out many things and when my dog got an Aural Hematoma I was able to know all the options, treatments, causes etc and I was able to walk into the vet office informed and knowledgeable about my dogs problem. Anyone else use this site and love it? I say kudos to the people who made it its the best thing I have found to help me keep involved and informed about my pets health.

Pet health question?
Today my dog, a pug, had some blood in her urine. She is "fixed". I have noticed that she has been urinating a lot more than usual. Could this be a kidney or bladder infection and if so what can be done? Any help is greatly appreciated

Does anyone with any veterinary training moderate the pet health questions board on this site?
I'm a veterinarian and checked out this forum after being directed to it by a pet owner. While some answers are sound medically, there are others which are very misleading and wrong which could lead to serious medical complications and even death.

Is anyone else tired of being ridiculed when they ask a pet health question?
I have asked a couple of questions in the past about pet health- just seeking some opinions on various subjects. Topics like earmites, bladder infections, etc. I have asked and I have seen others ask about home remedies for pets. It is so annoying to have many people treat you like a bad person or an irresponsible pet owner because you don't drop everything immediately and take the animal to the vet. Heck, I never took my children to the dr. immediately either for every little problem. I hate it when they answer something like, "well, if you can't afford proper care for your pet, then maybe you shouldnt have one at all". I am sure all of my pets are better off with me ( adopted strays living on their own before me and shelter pets) than if they were left to fend for themselves! At least they are eating regularly and receive all their necessary shots such as rabies, distemper, upper resp and others. I hate being made to feel like a monster because I dont have thousands to spend!!
I guess I should clarify. I do take my pets...I spent 700 on my dog this summer. I wanted to have her teeth cleaned and the preliminary tests that I requested snowballed into Xrays and then a specialist. She is fine, just old, but by time she actually got her teeth cleaned, I had spent the 700. I also took a cat on New Years Eve morning because of a bladder infection. I use yahoo because I want to hear about others experiences and want help exercising commonsense. I also have noticed that in the real world, i am ridiculed for spending TOO much money on my pets. So...on here, I am a louse, but in the real world I am a sucker. Go figure!
Yes...just like the rabbit with the runs story, that is what I am talking about EXACTLY!!! People need to get real and try to be more sympathetic to problems. Like maybe when you first obtained your pet, you were living at a certain income level and then through a series of unfortunate events, your income is lower and you are forced to cut corners now and then. THat doesnt mean you are a horrible pet owner that shoudl give up their pet in all cases! Maybe in some severe cases where the owner doesnt use common sense. ....Ok...I think I am done venting now.
