Natural Treatment of Worms In Puppies You Can Do At Home

Puppies are susceptible to infection by several different types of worms. Some of these live in a puppy's intestines, while others, like heartworm, live in another part of the body. The treatment of worms in puppies depends on the type of worm that has infected the animal. Common intestinal worms include roundworms, tapeworms, ringworms and hookworms.

Your veterinarian can perform routine checks on stool samples to see if your puppy has intestinal worms or heartworm. You can also look out for the symptoms of worms in puppies yourself. If your puppy's coat is dull or if you notice abdominal bloating or pale gums, you may want to have the dog evaluated for intestinal worms. Other symptoms of worms in puppies are diarrhea, black, tarry stools, blood or mucous in the stool, licking around the anus, weight loss and lethargy. You may also notice your puppy dragging his or her bottom along the floor or you may actually see worms in the puppy's stool. If you notice any of the symptoms of worms in puppies, you can then take steps to identify the type of worm that has infected your pet.

Roundworms are spaghetti-like in appearance and typically cause dull coat, bloated belly, vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss and lethargy. Puppies can be born with roundworms, and the worms may be seen in a puppy's stool or vomit. Tapeworms are small worms that look like grains of rice. You may see these around your puppy's anus or in places where he or she has been. The most common symptom of tapeworm is itching. Symptoms of hookworms in puppies include pale gums from anemia, lethargy, dull coat, slow growth, black tarry stools, diarrhea, vomiting and sometimes cough if the worms end up in the puppy's lungs.

Heartworm, a potentially fatal infection transmitted by mosquitoes, lives in an animal's heart and often migrates to the lungs. If you live in an area that has a lot of mosquitoes, be sure to protect your puppy's coat with topical insect repellants and limit the amount of time he or she spends outdoors. Symptoms of heartworm in puppies include shortness of breath, coughing, lethargy and weight loss despite normal eating habits.

As mentioned earlier, the treatment of worms in puppies depends on the kind of worm that has infected the animal. There are different medications for each type of worm, so you need to be able to distinguish among the various types of worms in puppies. There are also different symptoms to manage, depending on the specific type of infestation. For example, if your puppy has a worm that causes itching, you may need a topical ointment to treat that symptom. If the puppy is suffering from diarrhea or vomiting, he or she may need to be rehydrated.

Natural Treatment of Worms in Puppies

In addition to traditional medicine there are other options that can be used successfully for the treatment of worms in puppies. Certain herbal formulas, for example, can eradicate worms and also boost the puppy's immune system while regulating his or her digestive system, making it easier for the animal to recover from worm infestation, and less likely to become infested again in the future. Common ingredients found in these natural remedies include cloves and neem.

Cloves have the ability to kill eggs of different parasites, and neem which is a highly regarded plant in Ayurvedic medicine, has cleansing and anti-worm properties. For a home remedy you could buy cloves, grind them and sprinkle a bit over your puppy's food three times a day or, make a mild infusion with neem leaves and give it to your puppy as an anti-parasitic drink. My Puppy has diarrhea and there is blood in it..........?( 2nd Post)?
Well my puppy will be turning one on January 30th, so she isn't really a puppy anymore. So she just had some very foul smelling diarrhea and there is quite a bit of blood in it and now she is just sleeping. I do have another dog that is 4 years old and he has all of his shots, but could he still make my puppy sick? Should I be worried? She has only had one round of shots when she was 4 months old, and she does not have all of her shots. Thanks! :) To the first answer: I am not an adult I am 15.

My puppy has diarrhea with mucous in it and is hardly eating?
My puppy has diarrhea with mucous in it and is hardly eating. She is very active and doesn't appear ill but I'm concerned about her eating. She is 12 1/2 weeks and about 2.5 lbs. My husband did give her pieces of different foods i.e. ham, pepperoni a couple of days ago and it started today. Do you think this is what caused it? She will eat a tiny bit if I hand feed her (on the ground) but that's it. Thank you all for your answers! I know people food is bad and no this is not what we feed her (as I said my husband gave it to her and was unaware she couldn't eat it and it wasn't a lot) she eats just hard food - per her Dr. until they are six months I was told. I do believe as some of the others said that it was the because of the food but wanted to see what others thought. She would also eat dog food a little if I put it on the ground for her but not by herself out of the bowl. I did give her some yogurt and a little rice as suggested on the internet. I couldn't call my vet because it was after hours thus I came here. I think if she had Parvo she would not have been hopping around like a bunny and playing with her toys, no vommiting and ate a little and if we ate she wanted some. She did eat by herself at midnight :). When she went to the bathroom my husband said the first time it was hard but still had a little diarrhea left. I will call the Vet this morning to see what else to do

My puppy has diarrhea please help!?
Hi There, I have a 5 month old German/Husky that I rescued. I recently got her fixed and when they were in her they found worms. And the day before she threw up a bunch of round worms. So, I assume when I first got her 2 months ago she had the worms because I saved her from a horrible situation. So, the vets gave me dewormer to give her and I did. But, now she has bad diarrhea could that be because she is not used to digesting food properly because the worms took all the nutrients? She has had it for about a day and a half now and im not sure as to why. She did come from a horrible situation. I rescued her at 4 months because she was living in a ladies back yard in her on feces and was covered in fleas and ticks. So, I had to take her...she is the best puppy! I dewormed her a week ago and the diarrhea just started. Is this normal? She is still a playful happy go lucky puppy. Nothing has changed except she is eating more and seems to like food more.

My puppy has diarrhea quite bad?
We stupidly bought a puppy from a farm at almost 6 weeks old. Dont ask me why the breeder took them away from their mother so young, she made the excuse that they were moving home and they had to sell the puppies quickly. He was only 5 and a half weeks old when we bought him. We took him to the vets at 6 weeks 2 days for a general check. He was fine and apparently old enough to be vaccinated so they gave him his first injection and some worming powders. Since coming home he has had diarrhea, it wasnt too bad but this morning it was everywhere and some of it was very slimy and transparent. I noticed a spot of blood in it. I am now starving him and just allowing him to drink water but he has no interest in that. He is still lively as any puppy should be. The vets arent open today but i am waiting for the emergency vets to open this morning. He is a chocolate labrador and he is just 7 weeks old today. The vet has told me to put him on rice and chicken/fish for the next 24 hours. I just made him this and he loved it. He is sleeping now and hasnt empted his bowels just yet. He said its not good to starve a puppy. I have been feeding him since tuesday but today after seeing all the diarrhea I didnt want to but the vet said he is so young and its not good to starve him. He is happy now. Im just waiting to see how his stomach reacts to the meal he has just had. Thankyou so much everyone for your input. B2WM your answer was spot on, thankyou so much. I tried to put you as best answer but yahoo wont let me just yet. x
