The commercial dog food includes the packaged foods you find at your local supermarket, pet store or veterinarian. Commercial dog food is available in dry, semi dry and wet (canned). All the big names that we know so well are represented in this group. The raw dog food is growing in popularity. It includes the raw dog food and bones you prepare or pre-packaged diets. The homemade dog food is anything that you prepare at home for your dog.

The age of your puppy will basically tell you how much vitamins or minerals he needs. Your puppy may need more vitamin D than adult dogs. He may require more calcium since he needs to strengthen his bones. The weight of your puppy will also help you judge the best dog food for him. One clear example is protein. It's important that every dog food will have crude protein. It is the main source of amino acids, which are needed for proper enzyme function. Tempting food for sick dog?
Does anyone have any ideas on what to feed an ill dog? In my last question, l was asking for ideas on what could be causing my dog to vomit. She's now got a referral to a specialist on Monday, but in the meantime it's becoming increasingly difficult to get her to eat anything. Apart from being horribly skinny, she seems ok, she still wants to go for walks, and seems bright enough, but in the last three days she's eaten a few pieces of chicken, a bit of minced beef, and a couple of mouthfuls of scrambled egg. Tomorrow l'm going to phone the vets and see if there's a liquid food she can have, but has anyone got any ideas? I'm not asking, what's the treat your dog can't resist, l need to get something inside this dog, so if anyone has had a seriously ill dog that wouldn't eat, please let me know. I've tried minced beef, chicken breast, ham pieces, and scrambled egg, nothing gets eaten after the first few mouthfuls. She's a ten year old staffie btw, who normally eats senior Arden Grange kibble, mixed with a bit of forthglade wet food. Thanks SocttieD, my vet had given me a couple of tins of both A/D and I/D, with A/d being the preferable of the two, but5 she wasn't interested. I popped into the vets yesterday, and they said the same thing as you, and gave me a syringe. I've found that by adding a small amount of water, it comes out easily, and she accepts if really well into her mouth. By the end of the day, she was trying to lick the end of the syringe! She still won't eat it from the bowl, but it's taken a huge weight off my mind now that l've actually managed to get some proper food into her, and l'm feeding her every few hours. many thanks!

Any suggestions on Dog food for sick dogs?
I have a 12 year ol Border Collie with advanced heart failure. He is on several meds, and his condition is (for now) controlled. My problem is getting him to eat. The Vet suggested baby food; that worked for awhile. I've also tried several flavors of cat food, and he ate them, but soon lost interest. Boiled chicken, frosty paws, salmon, tuna... my list of attempts is very long. Anyone have anymore ideas??? I'd appreciate the input!
