Dog illness linked to flea shampoo?
I have two dogs, a 4 year old pit and a 9 year old (senior) Old English Bulldog. Two nights ago I gave them a bath with the Hertz flea and tick shampoo as I noticed they were both getting fleas. I have never given this to them before as they're both inside dogs and have never had a flea problem before. My pit was vomiting here and there, but for the last two days my bulldog cannot hold his bowel movements. He has had numerous piles of diarrhea all over the house yesterday. I didn't think too much of it as sometimes if he has some human food this will happen (he has a sensitive stomach). I went to work for a couple hours today and had kept him in his kennel in case he had problems today and I came home to him covered in diarrhea! The only thing that has been different from his normal day to day was the flea bath. Is it possible that this could have made my dogs ill? My pit seems fine today. Is there something I could feed him to help him out? I'm trying to avoid a visit to the vet if I don't have to as the vet really stresses out my bulldog (he's pretty old for a bulldog) but I'm thinking it might be inevitable. Was wondering if anyone else had the same problems and what they might recommend. Thanks! Edit: They have had their parvo shots and are up to date on all vaccines so they are good there.

What treatment did your vet give for this?
My (outdoor) lab mix has been limping the past couple of days- we're going to give her a couple more days just to see if it seems to be getting better before we take her to the vet. I've been watching to see if it got better, but it must be getting worse because she was avoiding it altogether this morning. ( It's one of her back legs. I got her to lay down yesterday and I moved her leg around and nothing seemed out of the ordinary about how it moved, and she let me move it, she didn't whine or nip at me and she also is still iniating roughhousing with my other 2 (bigger) dogs). We've been through just about every dog illness except for this. My question is this- What kind of treatment-regimen can I expect from the vet if it's broken or sprained badly, etc?

Help me not feel so scared about this...?
I really want to get a Golden Retriever, but they seem to have a lot of health issues, such as cancer. Lately I have been through a lot, such as losing my mom to cancer and having my puppy hit by a car. I just don't want to get a dog that is likely to have a terminal illness or health issue and go through loss again anytime soon... Can anyone give me some input on dog illnesses, if they are likely to occur in younger dogs, what can be done, is treatment expensive, etc.? My husband isn't one to spend money at the vet so if the dog was really ill he'd want to put it out of it's misery, not invest a ton of money in the problem. I also worry about my daughter growing attached to a dog as she grows and then it dying too soon... Are Goldens really that much more prone to cancer, etc.? Thanks, I just need some reassurance and encouragement to do this. I am looking into other breeds, but I keep coming back to the Golden. The puppy that was hit was killed by the car. We have taken our dogs to the vet when they are sick or we weren't sure what is going on with them. We buy our own shots from Agway instead of paying someone to do it. My husband loves dogs, but we can't afford thousands of dollars in vet bills and watch a dog suffer if it isn't going to live happily again. I wasn't trying to make him sound like a dog hater or something, but we arent going to run up a credit card bill for a dog! That doesn't mean we can't be loving dog owners.

Border Collie Dog, Illness possibly a urine problem or leg/back problem?
Yesterday my four year old border collie was taken to an emergency vet, he is generally in very good health and is very very active, he went to bed perfectly well but in the morning could not walk! he looked like he was in a lot of pain on his back end ..we rushed him to an emergency vet who also was none the wiser about his problem! She says his symptoms don't seem to match a gut problem as he has no Temperature or vomiting, she lifted and poked around his back end and he has no immediate pain.... HOW EVER... he still could not walk or when he DID he was very very tucked up like we would if we had stomach ache!! She has given him an anti-inflamatory which seems to have helped, today he is up and about .. not 100% but much much better.... Im worried as to what caused this? would this sound like a kidney problem? Now I think about it, he often cocks his leg for ages but no wee comes out! OR could it be a back problem? a month or so a go his back foot swelled right up and he couldn't walk on it! we do live on a farm so we just put it down to treading on some thing..... either way its great that he seems on the mend, but he is a real up and comer for dog agility and im worried that what ever this is, is going to stop him or worse! Thanks for the answers!, No the vet didnt take any blood or ex-rays which is really what I wanted to have done (especially after paying the EMERGENCY fee of a sunday appointment lol) To answer the question below, about the "gut" problem, we thought may be he could have eaten some poisen, or maybe have some thing stuck that he cant pass? but today he seems pretty much fine! either way I think I would like to have more tests as SOME thing was VERY wrong yesterday so bad that we had to CARRY him and he is a BIG collie haha! and im worried it could get worse if not treated! Luckily we have insurance so fingers crossed all the above will be covered! and yes he is entire! and yes I think she did check every thing there!

What illnesses can dogs get?
I was wondering if dogs can get a flu-like illness, or if perhaps if they start showing signs of being ill then it is something more serious? My dog has just turned 7. She is an english cocker spaniel and i have noticed in the last few days that she has become very lazy, lazier than usual (after all she is a cocker and is pretty lazy anyway). She wont even get out of bed when someone goes outside (she would usually race to the door to go out with them) instead she just lies in bed and whimpers. She also slept the whole night outside, we couldn't find her as she was not even in her kennel, and she never has spent a whole night outside. Usually she barks to come inside. She came in the morning and was cold and shivering. She is just acting weird. What are some of the illnesses that I should be looking out for? What can dogs get? Can they just get a flu or are dog illnesses usually more serious. I will take her to the vet if it gets worse or maybe if it doesn't get better in a few days. yeh i no i should take her to the vet. That wasn't my question. The vet is closed its a public holilday. Ill take her as soon as I can. She was desexed when she was a puppy. Can they still nest after that?
