Common Dog Health Questions Answered

There are just some things about our dogs health that leave almost very dog owner scratching their head and wondering, "Well what do I do now?" Below are some of the most common dog health questions that are asked by dog owners, along with how you can help or cure the issue.

Insect Bites and Bee Stings

Being the curious and inquisitive creatures that they are, dogs are prone to a load of random insect bites and bee stings. One of the most common of the dog health questions is, "How can I help relieve the pain and itchiness of an insect bite or sting?" Some of the best ways you can begin relieving any insect bite or sting symptoms include the use of one of the following:

  • Baking soda (make a paste and apply it to the bite or sting several times a day)
  • A meat tenderizer (the enzymes help break down the poison that is causing the itching and burning sensation your dog feels)
  • Aloe Vera (a natural soothing agent
  • Manuka honey (antibacterial and it will heal the wound faster than anything else
  • Cold compress (this will help lessen the swelling and reduce the pain)

If your dog is suffering from dog fleas, then you will also want to take preventative measures from this happening again, such as putting your dog on a preventative medication.

Ear Mites

One of the most common dog health questions out there is "How do I get rid of my dog's ear mites?" Dog ear mites are often mistaken as a dog ear infection. If you have discovered that your dog has ear mites, then you must:

  • Clean off the whole crusty layer of debris that will be inside your dog's ears. You can do this using mineral oil in a dropper
  • Apply medication that you obtain from your veterinarian's office.

Dog Pregnancy

If you have a pregnant pooch, there's a good chance that you have plenty of dog health questions. Here are some of the top dog health questions about pregnancy answered:

"Fading Puppy" Syndrome: This is when the puppy may appear to be healthy and normal at birth, yet several hours later it appears to be cold, and is crying or whimpering by itself. Mother dogs may not willingly take the puppy, which means that you will need to be the "mother" for this dog and feed it, as well as provide warmth.

Anemia: Anemia is the result of a nutritional deficiency curing the mother dog's pregnancy. The mom and pups are almost always both anemic. Ask your veterinarian for appropriate supplements for the dogs.

dog medical question please help?
my dog is a pitbull and german sheperd mix but takes on the pitbull mostly, she has the build for it. Well, yesterday morning when she got up she was weak in the back end and shaking badly, she couldnt get in the car she just fell backwards, we took her to the vet and she came out negative for lime disease but they are doing more bloodwork. Later in the day me and my mom noticed that she favors her leg like its injured but we have no idea how she would have injured it since she was fine before sleeping and woke up shaking. What could it be? We are taking her for x-rays soon and possibly it would help.

Dog medical question (epilepsy?)?
Okay here's the story, and it's long.. brace yourself. About two months ago I woke up and my dog was shaking, it looked like he was just dreaming but it worried me so I woke him up. His whole body stopped shaking EXCEPT his head. He was completely conscious and he could walk. His head was shaking from side to side and up and down. It was definitely involuntary. This was at five in the morning so we called the E-vet and they told us as long as he was conscious and breathing to wait until 8:30 when the regular vet opened. His head would stop shaking from time to time, but for the most part from 5:00 am until 8:00 am he was "seizing". We got him to the vet right at 8:30 and they took us in. At this point and time he was not "seizing". The only thing the vet found was that his heart rate was slightly low for his age, besides that he was perfectly healthy. They took blood work to find out if he had anything wrong internally; the blood work came back perfect. The vets had no idea what was wrong with him. They told us it was an isolated event caused by something unknown. The doctor told us that we had the option to put him on Phenobarbital, but he recommended that we didn't. To this day he has not had another seizure (what ever you want to call it). A couple days ago was his vet appointment to get his adult vaccines. We had a different doctor than the one we saw two months ago. She told us that it is possible that he has epilepsy, but there is no way to diagnose it unless he has another episode. Her hypothesis is that he will (at some point and time) have another seizure, but it is quite possible that it was just a quirky one time thing. Again he left with a clean bill of health. We have contacted his breeder and she has seen no signs of epilepsy in his bloodlines. (Which was predictable because she would have never bred a dog with a health problem). Our breeder is now very concerned (as we are). The vet told us that he is going to have a long healthy life regardless of him having or not having epilepsy. So after all of that, my question is.. Has anyone had (or know of) a similar experience? What ended up happening with your dog? Do you know of any other causes other than canine epilepsy? Again, this happened one time during his whole life. He is perfectly healthy otherwise. Thank you for taking the time to read this.
