Common Dog Health Questions Answered

There are just some things about our dogs health that leave almost very dog owner scratching their head and wondering, "Well what do I do now?" Below are some of the most common dog health questions that are asked by dog owners, along with how you can help or cure the issue.

Insect Bites and Bee Stings

Being the curious and inquisitive creatures that they are, dogs are prone to a load of random insect bites and bee stings. One of the most common of the dog health questions is, "How can I help relieve the pain and itchiness of an insect bite or sting?" Some of the best ways you can begin relieving any insect bite or sting symptoms include the use of one of the following:

  • Baking soda (make a paste and apply it to the bite or sting several times a day)
  • A meat tenderizer (the enzymes help break down the poison that is causing the itching and burning sensation your dog feels)
  • Aloe Vera (a natural soothing agent
  • Manuka honey (antibacterial and it will heal the wound faster than anything else
  • Cold compress (this will help lessen the swelling and reduce the pain)

If your dog is suffering from dog fleas, then you will also want to take preventative measures from this happening again, such as putting your dog on a preventative medication.

Ear Mites

One of the most common dog health questions out there is "How do I get rid of my dog's ear mites?" Dog ear mites are often mistaken as a dog ear infection. If you have discovered that your dog has ear mites, then you must:

  • Clean off the whole crusty layer of debris that will be inside your dog's ears. You can do this using mineral oil in a dropper
  • Apply medication that you obtain from your veterinarian's office.

Dog Pregnancy

If you have a pregnant pooch, there's a good chance that you have plenty of dog health questions. Here are some of the top dog health questions about pregnancy answered:

"Fading Puppy" Syndrome: This is when the puppy may appear to be healthy and normal at birth, yet several hours later it appears to be cold, and is crying or whimpering by itself. Mother dogs may not willingly take the puppy, which means that you will need to be the "mother" for this dog and feed it, as well as provide warmth.

Anemia: Anemia is the result of a nutritional deficiency curing the mother dog's pregnancy. The mom and pups are almost always both anemic. Ask your veterinarian for appropriate supplements for the dogs.

Dog Health Questions on Yahoo?
It never ceases to amaze me how many people seem to think that potentially serious and life threatening illnesses and injuries can be diagnosed and treated by posting a question here. The answers they get are invariably ?take your dog to the vet now!!? or well meaning folk try to help with answers that may be right or may be wrong. Shouldn?t Yahoo split the Dog section into two and call one ?Dog Health?? Every time someone posts a question under Dog Health they could get a message and email saying something like: ?If you are worried about any aspect of your Dog?s health we strongly advise you to seek appropriate advice from a Veterinary Surgeon?.

dog health question?
I have a dalmatian who is very thin as compared to any other I have seen. she is not emaciated in any way, just very lean. We have never been too concerned as she has always gotten a clean bill of health at the vet and has LOTS of energy. there have been a couple times in the past 3 mos or so that she has vommited a large amount of kibble quite a while after she ate. we were slightly concerned but being as she acted completely normal after (had lots of energy, ate and drank fine, and has healthy BMs) we did not worry too much. We came to see my BFs mom who has 2 dogs. one of which got into must have gotten into something because he vomited it up. even though it was soon after he ate breakfast, all he vomited was the wraper and some stomach fluid, no kibble. this got me thinking that maybe my dog is not digesting her food properly and that is why she would vomit so much kibble even though she ate so long ago and also why she is so thin compared to other dalmatians...continued... I have a call into the vet but I have asked about her weight and they have never been concerned. they say she looks fine and his very healthy. any thoughts? she does eat very fast but the couple times that this happened, she didn't throw up until probably at least couple hours after she ate.

DIsgusting dog health question?
NOW DO NOT get annoyed with me... I am calling the vet, but it's nice to know if anyone has heard of this. My dog is already on medication for intestinal parasites (a SMALL infestation, if you can call it that)... Anyways, when my dog is free to roam outside she poops a lot. A LOT... and it is a very small amount of a mucusy/poop colored substance. VERY SMALL amount, and she roams around the yard and keeps doing it, almost like she's marking her territory... If I keep her on lead and just tell her to "do her business" she will do it, not like this. It's only when she's off lead and is freely running around... it's very strange. I did just talk to the vet, and they said we will monitor her over the weekend and then Monday will get back in touch... keep her on her cottage cheese/white rice diet and her meds...

Very gross, but serious dog health question. Details below.?
My dogs are due for their yearly physical. I guess I never noticed before, but this year, the note from the vet said to bring a fresh 'stool sample'. I know what that is of course, however, the question is - how fresh does it need to be? I can't gaurantee that my dog is going to be in the mood to drop a load that very morning (tomorrow) when I'm headed to the vet. I just let them out to go a few minutes ago, and one of them dropped solids. Marvelous. I picked it up with a gallon sized ziplock bag, then triple bagged that and stashed it in the fridge. If she's got an intestinal parasite issue, will this kill the evidence? I'm know this question sounds like a joke. It's not. I'm crazy about my dogs, I take good care of them, but this isn't exactly something that people compare notes on at work. Any guidance would be appreciated. thanks Kevin Yahoo won't let me pick an answer yet, but they are all good ones. I appreciate it, since I need the info by the morning. I don't have any idea why they suddenly want a sample because it's always been the probe and smear in the past. Getting it wasn't a barrel of monkeys, but it was no biggie either, and I didn't want to put it in the fridge, but as I mentioned, it's tripled bagged. Quadruple really, but I didn't want to touch the first one enough to get it shut. I might be sorry but I guess it came down to trying to get it right for the vet. The health of my dogs trumps my squeamishness.
