What are Common Dog Allergy Symptoms?
If you think that your dog may be suffering from dog allergies, then it is important to familiarize yourself with the common dog allergy symptoms. Depending on what type of dog allergies your pet suffers from, the symptoms may vary slightly. Here are some of the common dog allergy symptoms to be on the look out for:
Itching
Itching is a common sign for dog skin allergies, flea allergies and dog food allergies. If your dog is particularly itchy, you will notice him chewing, biting, licking or gnawing at certain parts of his or her body. Where the biting occurs may help indicate if your dog is suffering from dog skin allergies or dog food allergies. The most common areas where you will find your dog itching is:
- Abdomen
- Paws
- Face
- Ears
- Hindquarters and groin
When it comes to dog allergy symptoms, dogs do tend to lick the affected or "allergic" areas. Flea allergies usually result in the dog trying to itch and scratch his back and hindquarters. Contact allergies will result in excessive itching in areas where the dog has less hair coverage, such as the arm pits and the abdomen. Atopic allergies will usually result in your dog trying to scratch his face, feet and chest.
Raw Paws
For a dog that has been gnawing on his or her paws, you will notice that the paws usually have a reddish brown color, and they may appear raw or, in more severe cases, they may even be bloody.
Sneezing
Of the dog allergy symptoms, sneezing is usually the number one sign of any sort of atopic (inhalant-related) allergies, though in rare cases it can be a sign of your dog suffering from contact allergies. Sneezing is usually accompanied with a clear discharge that may be coming from the eyes or the nose.
Diarrhea
Diarrhea can be a sign for many different dog diseases and illnesses, but it can also be a one of the most telling of the dog allergy symptoms that will let you know that your dog is suffering from a food allergy. If you suspect your dog is suffering from dog food allergies, switch to a more bland type of food and see if that makes any difference to his stools. Dog food allergies also are usually accompanied by itching and scratching, and occasionally lethargy and fatigue.

Dog Allergies?
Pup seems to have allergies to something, and I'm not completely sure what. Was going to get tested done, but they said it costs 200-400 dollars. I probably won't be able to afford that. The reaction is like a rash, it completely covers his belly, all the fur is gone there, and then the end of his back and tip of his tail, and a bit on his neck. It's very, very dry, and warm to the touch, but I don't think its a hotspot due to the fact its very large and we've tried hot spot medication. Im buying food without corn, as I figured it was that, but no change. Anything else it could be, that are common dog allergies that I could try to eliminate from his diet/surroundings?

My weimaraner has a skin condition that shows up every so often, but then goes away again. Patches of her fur get really thin so you can see the skin under them. Aside from an occasional mosquito bite, it doesn't seem irritated or anything, and she doesn't scratch at it at all. My vet basically told me it was probably an allergy of some sort, and the only way to figure out what the problem is, is to use process of elimination. He said I could give her benadryl in the meantime, but I hate to do that to her. Does anyone know what common dog allergies are, so I can figure out what to try first? I was thinking maybe it was her food. What kind of food can I give her that is mild enough to avoid this problem? When we aren't home, her and my lab stay in the garage. Could it be mold or something from down there? Any pointers on this would be REALLY helpful

what are the most common dog allergies?
my dog has really poorly skin .it kind of looks like hives n he scratches alot. my other dog however is fine, and they don't have fleas. I asked my friend who is a veternary nurse at the vets where i go,to have a look at him as i thought it could be mites or something, but then again the other dog would have got them anyway.
Right so she had a look and she said its not fleas or mites and looks like an allergy. so ive asked her to book him in at the vets when she goes in to work tomorrow and ill get the next available appointment.
Any way i was wondering if in the meantime you cold tell me the most common allergies that dogs can have that cause skin complaints. she said shake n vac was usually the main culprit ( we dont use it) or low quality food, wich they dont get they are on a semi raw diet building up to be on a fully raw diet.
their bedding is boil washed in water with no detergents.
